Charlie has been trying so hard to be good. Sadly, we're having to ...ahem...help him along. Yes, we have begun doing time-outs. Amazingly, today when Charlie got frustrated and I was sure he was going to hit me (a common problem, unfortunately) he thought for a moment, patted my face in "nice touch" fashion and put his head on my shoulder. I really needed that moment after the guilt of giving him the time outs. Besides being naughty, Charlie has been doing plenty of cute things, too. For example, Charlie has a new fascination with shoes and socks. Whenever he spies a pair he brings them over, lies on his back, and points his foot in the air. We've started calling him "Pup in Boots".
Charlie has also been climbing everything in sight and is surprisingly good at balancing on small surfaces. Instead of rushing to rescue him when he climbs into a precarious situation, I've learned to go through a few questions first. How high off the ground is he? Less than two feet. Where will he fall? Onto the carpet. Is there anything pointy, fragile, or messy nearby? No? Then let the boy perch.
One of Charlie's best new skills is helping us around the house. He loves to help us put toys away, bring us things from other rooms, and throw bits of paper and garbage away. Of course, the garbage is usually his fault, but that doesn't stop him from pinching the bit of trash with exaggerated disgust and surprise and loudly declaring "uh-oh!" before marching the offensive material off to the garbage can. Good boy, Charlie! Good boy.

I love the way you and Billy ( such "Uber Parents") are so thoughtfully raising our grandson. Since you were the consumate babysitter for years Court, and Billy is such a sensitive and hands on dad, I am not surprised with your loving, educated approach to raising your charming, intelligent, and challanging charming "Pup in Boots".
Having had a little brother who also climbed everything in sight with his sister running to mommy shouting, "Emergency! Emergency!" history proves that allowing Charlie a safe chance to be in charge of his own physical domain will help him become a confident risk taking adult like his absent, but loving, Uncle Cam.
Oh wow, everything about this post was so cute! It's a good thing you are all going to be coming to visit soon; I need to see Charlie in action!
